Strong Crock Pot Ribs

The pictures are links to larger images. Text in blue are links.

WARNING: These ribs are strong - not in a spicy way, but in a strong flavored way. They aren't for kids.

Tone down the flavor by reducing the amount of alcohol in the marinade or the amount of time marinating.

Marinade ingredients:

Cooking ingredients

Roughly chop the onion. For marinades and hearty dishes like ribs and baked beans - I like to chop them anywhere between 1/16 and 1/8 inch thick. It adds texture as well as taste.

Press or mince the garlic. Place with brown sugar into a container large enough to marinate the ribs.

Add the Jack Daniels and wisk until the brown sugar is completely dissolved.

Add the onion and mix again.

Place ribs into marinade and shake well to cover the ribs. Marinate 8+ hours. The longer you marinate, the stronger the remaining taste of the whiskey.

Place ribs in crock pot. I stand them up so they all fit and I can get better coverage with the sauce. Pour 1/2 cup of marinade (including onions) over ribs.

Liberally pour honey over all the ribs. Allow honey to cover ribs and begin to pool at the bottom of the crock.

Add barbecue sauce to ribs. Don't be stingy - this is what the ribs are going to slow cook in. Cover ribs as completely as you can.

Cook on low for 10-12 hours (beefy ribs will be rare at 10 hours). Baste with the honey/barbecue sauce every 2 hours to keep everything moist.
